Who were the distributions? How well known is/was the company? what is their track record as distributors? ( The boat that rocked )
The films main distributor was Universal Studios who have a very big reputation in the film industry and are usually involved in the top films in hollywood. The films distribution track record are very good these include films like E.T etc. The target audience of the film would be for people in their 40's because the film was set in the sixties. The film marketing strategy was the same as any others trailers and posters were used. There was a premiere for the film and it was held at leicster square. The use of youtube and the internet is probably the best way nowadays to advertise a film and get loads of publicity for it because we live in a society now where its getting more and more computer technology based. Also you can get sites that are just strictly dedicated to a certain film which gives the film more publicity.

Issues For The Production Company During Production Phase? ( The boat that rocked )
Some filming of the film took place on a former dutch hospital ship called the Timor Challenger which was based Portland Harbour Dorset. This particular ship was used to film most of the outside scenes of the film on the boat. However to film the interior shots we see in the film there were two locations used in order to do this. First some of the interior shots were filmed in a warehouse in Osprey Quay on the Isle Of Portland and the other location used was at Shepperton Studios. They have warehouses to save money and time because if they were to try and move everything onto the ship it would have been a long and time consuming process which could cost them money. The casting of the characters was very significant because they casted very well known people from sucessfull films which in a way appeals more to audiences because they automatically think when big names are in a film it is going to be spectacular. The director of the film chose his cast very well and was looking for a particular texture in the actors to take something thats comedy to the limit without becoming fake. The films production cost exceeded 30 million which tells us that the film was very expensive to make and went well over the budget they had planned to stick to.
The Boat That Pre-Production Issues.
The cast of the film includes oscar winner Phillip Semour Hoffman , hot fuzz's Nick Frost and supporting roles by actors such as Tom surridge , Jack Davenport and Gemma Arteton. They brought in these well known experienced characters to make the film more stronger and appealing to the audience which makes the film more worth while watching because the audience get to see very well known actors act. The writer of the film was Richard Curtis and he also directed the film he was the only person who had any influence in the writing of the film. The reason for this is because he is a very experienced writer and director writing and directing films like Love Actually , Bridget Jones Diary etc. The film did not have anyone compose any music from scratch but it was heavily based on other artist music through out the film from artist such as. Duffy , Jimmy Hendrix , Box Tops , The Beach Boys etc. They all have a sixties vibe to the music which they chose for the film seen as the film is set in the 60's the film also has a 60 song soundtrack featuring many diferent artists.

Kidulthood Questions
Why would this film have found it difficult to get finance from a production company?
The reason that Kidulthood had difficulty getting finance for their film is because it was a low budget film with only two people funding the whole project.Kidulthood only had a budget of £600,000 the funds came from Menhaj Huda and producer friend George Issac. Also they wouldnt of had many copies of the film to distribute around so it would have made it more difficult to make more money and get it in more cinemas. Also the actors are unknown which could would make some companies not go near them because they would want more known people so they can make more money. The film dosent appeal to a wide range of people becuase it is a very teenage based film which only appeals to people who actualy go through the strugle.
Although heavily promoted there was limited distribution of the film, why?
There was limited distribution of the film because the distributors are not well known and considering this is their first time doing it they done very well.Because it was the first time of the company revolver distributing the film it was very dificult because unlike well known distributors they did not have the links that other experienced distributors had.
Why would this film be more successful on DVD than in the cinema?
One of the reasons this film would be sucessful on DVD is because seen as it didnt do very well in the cinema because it wasnt very wide spread across many cinemas but it was a good film more people would buy it on dvd because they could not watch the film in the cinema. Now becuase of all the new technology like home cinema and things like that now people can watch DVD's in their home and have a cinema experience with out spending any money at all.
